Artist’s Statement
The creative process of expressing my life in my work makes it real and unique. I create faces and figures in clay that convey emotion through gesture, movement and facial expressions. My pieces can be humorous or thought provoking. I build my sculpture with coils of clay working intuitively while giving life to each figure as my ideas develop. The mystery in each form keeps me interested. They are fired multiple times to achieve the color and texture I want, often inspired by things I see in nature. I enjoy the contrast of rough next to smooth and dry next to shiny for my surfaces. I experiment with a combination of slips, oxides, glazes and hot wax called encaustic.

My terracotta pottery is hand painted with designs drawn on the surface before it is fired using colored slips in a syringe to achieve rich vibrant color patterns. My dinnerware is fun, festive and functional!
