Artist’s Bio
Sandra Daniel has lived and worked in Lafayette for most of her life. She attended Lafayette, West Lafayette and Tippecanoe County schools and graduated from Purdue University in Liberal Arts. She has been a part of many juried art shows in the area, has won awards, and taught several classes. The main body of her work since 1990 has been plein air and abstract oil paintings.
Most often inspiration comes from objects of beauty, color, and light, yet on one occasion, an abstract painting was the successful artistic result of a dog bite. Sandra is never lacking ideas for paintings and finds great joy in the push and pull of the paint.
Her work is available in Lafayette’s Main Street at Artists’ Own Gallery and the Ferry Street Studios, and can be found in many private collections in Indiana, California and New Mexico.
Artist’s Statement
I’ve been married to one man for a long time, but I am most definitely not married to one art technique. I love it all. The thin glazes that layer one color over another unveiling luminescence. The way thick textures seem to fall into the canvas and mix their own colors. Botero said, “When you start a painting, it is somewhat outside you. At the conclusion, you seem to move inside the painting.” When someone chooses to live with one of my works and has a painting in their home to see every day, it gives me great pleasure. A part of the artist is always inside the painting. |
